Did someone say FREE???

Once upon a time, before I grew a beard and started writing about golf, I was a Medical Service Corps Officer in the Army.

That’s why, when I see stuff like LIV Golf offering complementary tickets to service members, it tugs on my heartstrings a little bit.

I don’t know if a lot of people know this, but quite a few military bases have golf courses right on them. I have spent many a morning teeing off on the 3rd hole in front of the Fort Knox bullion depository. (The guys in the guard shack probably laughing as I hit my ball over the barbed wire onto their lawn…)

Military folks like golf. They play a lot of golf. What better way to relax than smashing a little ball around in the fresh air?

I will admit though, LIV needs to broadcast this more. I haven’t seen a lot about free tickets to service members, so it is up to us to get the word out.

I am going to put all of the information in the box below. I want you to send that information to anybody you know that is in the military. Anybody that knows someone in the military. Anyone that used to be in the military.

Help me get the word out so the fine men and women that serve us everyday can go and enjoy some of the best golf in the world!

Military is the sexy thing to support, I know. But there are a whole range of individuals who add to our society in ways we could not function without.

Now if it were up to me, the tickets would be free for these next groups as well. Unfortunately LIV didn’t ask me before coming up with this policy.

Still, it is good information to know and might just get you to a LIV event you wouldn’t have otherwise gone to.

Medical Professionals and First Responders

You all deserve a break. Let’s be honest. Lately even the rich a** doctors haven’t been having time to get out and enjoy a round.

Let’s get these folks the break they deserve and let them enjoy some Cam Smith hair, Phil Mickelson calves, and Bryson DeChambeau drives.

Teachers

Without teachers, I wouldn’t be writing this newsletter. Heck, you wouldn’t be reading it either!

I’m glad LIV Golf recognizes the hard work our teachers put in everyday and the importance of their role.

But, for this weekend, “School’s out for golf! School’s out for LIV”. I think thats what Alice Cooper said…

Students

I don’t know if this is taking a bet that some of these ones will become military, first responders, or teachers, but they included it anyway…

I’m just kidding. I have taken advantage of my fair share of student discounts. And it is awesome that they make this more affordable and approachable for students.

They are really the ones we want to be introducing the awesome game of golf too anyway.

At the University of Kentucky (Go Cats) students love to tailgate and go watch horses run in a circle 🐎. Why not replace that with golf? Sounds like a no brainer to me.

Youth

Is there anything more precious than a child’s smile? Especially on a golf course 😉.

Seriously, theres a lot of categories here. If you know someone that fits in send this to them and see if they want to go. It supports LIV, it supports the game, and could just possibly create memories for a lifetime. (and if they read the newsletter that’s not bad either).

Player Profile - Branden Grace

A lot of sports earn followings from loyalty to geographic locations, colleges, etc… This is your chance to learn about the LIV golfers and find who you connect with.

His name is Grace and he plays with it. But that still doesn’t mean he won’t demolish a playing field. Grace won the first LIV Golf event held in the U.S. and is a key member of the all South African team - Stinger GC. He also holds the record for the lowest score in a single round of a men’s major. That may sound like a lot of caveats, but a 62 at the Open Championship is pretty freaking impressive. Say a prayer, because Grace is going to try to feast on the competition for the rest of the season.

Pairings are out for Friday’s shotgun start and I am here for it.

Group 1:

Charles Howell III is coming off a victory. Everyone always wants to see what Phil Mickelson is going to do. Cameron Smith is arguably the best golfer out there and probably wants to make a statement after being banned from the Players last weekend.

Thats a lot of fireworks in one group and a lot of possibilities for some crazy shots.

Group 2:

Another group of big names. Not to mention Koepka and DeChambeau have a history of going at each other. (Koepka thinks DeChambeau plays slow and DeChambeau doesn’t like Koepka’s abs)

These guys are all real good and have some real personality so , I don’t know, maybe the fireworks will actually be here.

Group 17:

Pat Perez had an Ace (and nearly a couple) at the first event in Mayakoba. And he played well all around too. Paul Casey had a pretty good day as well, coming in 4th.

I think someone out of this group has a real shot at being in contention on Sunday.
